Students in Prince George’s County are stepping out of the classroom to showcase their construction and interior design skills.

"It's one thing to work on electricity, or plumbing, or masonry in a classroom, it's a whole other thing to actually build a house," said Dr. Kevin Maxwell, CEO of Prince George’s County Public Schools.

On Thursday morning, the students showed off their hard work and unveiled this year’s student built house. Since September, the kids put their blood, sweat and tears into helping build a house in Clinton.

The Sentinel - Bladensburg Students Begin Work on Student Built House

CLINTON – In a cul-de-sac, surrounded by beautiful, finished brick houses, sits one lot without a house, but with a large wood pallet in front of it that reads “Student Built House.”

In the lone lot without a house is the basement of what is to come - the foundation of another project courtesy of the Student Built House Project.

In May, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) celebrated the opening of the Student Built House Project as the house went on the market for more than $400,000. Now, just across the street, sits the beginnings of this year’s project and the beginning of another house built from student hands.
